Validata assists Amsterdam UMC in obtaining JCI accreditation

Amsterdam UMC

When you are treated in a hospital as a patient, you would expect to be in safe hands. Healthcare institutions can guarantee this by obtaining accreditation of the Joint Commission International (JCI), supported by the WHO. After a run-up of two years when 1200 elements were assessed, the Amsterdam UMC is working towards JCI accreditation – to be obtained in October 2019 – following a successful audit.

‘JCI accreditation is an international quality and patient safety mark for the healthcare sector, where several checks indicate if (potential) employees are qualified for the job,’ explains Monique Meijer, Project Manager JCI Accreditation, Personnel and Organisation at the Amsterdam UMC. ‘Source verification is a legal requirement; checking if the persons concerned did obtain their degrees and/or diplomas at the institution they shared.’ Validata assists the Amsterdam UMC in conducting various screenings, including source verification.

Amsterdam UMC and AMC successfully working together with Validata

‘Before, we were checking the degrees and/or diploma’s and other documents of new employees ourselves by requesting, scanning and filing the documents,’ explains Monique. ‘When using primary source verification became a legal requirement for the Amsterdam UMC to use, we decided to outsource this part. Enquiry at the Academic Medical Centre (AMC) – our partner and the first Dutch hospital to obtain JCI accreditation – proved that they were already successfully working together with Validata for many years. That is why two years ago, we also decided to start a collaboration with Validata.’

Validata offers professional support, now and in the future

‘The advantage of our collaboration with Validata is the continuity they provide. If we were to screen ourselves and one of our employees were to drop out, this could cause problems. In addition, Validata offers continuous professional support; through their automated processes, but also through the support team. And finally, outsourcing the screenings saves us a lot of time.’

‘After having previously run a successful pilot with Validata, we have been verifying all healthcare workers who start working for us since 1 January 2018. The fact that the Amsterdam UMC can receive its JCI accreditation as of October 2019 after a successful audit means that from that moment on we are also obliged to screen our current staff. I can imagine that Validata will also play a role in this. The details are not yet known, but a new collaboration with Validata is a possibility.’

VUmc actively involved in the development of Validata’s services

‘Robbert Remmers (Manager Sales and Marketing, Validata) called me some time ago to ask if the Amsterdam UMC would like to think about possible improvements in Validata’s services. As a customer, it is special to have a say in the development of such processes. We were given the opportunity to make known the elements that we encounter as a customer and to look for new solutions together. This level of involvement is highly appreciated by us as Amsterdam UMC. Validata is a party that listens carefully to its customers and really tailors its services to current needs from the market.’
