How long does a background check take?
The time needed to conduct a background check depends on multiple factors. Among others, it depends on how extensive a check you want and how quickly the candidate provides the requested information. During a background check, the candidate provides information that is then verified using multiple data sources. This means that the time for a background check also depends on external third parties – if verifying data directly at the source – and can be impacted especially when foreign agencies are involved.
Validata offers three different levels of background checks: “Good”, “Better”, and “Best”. “Good” usually takes no more than 24 hours after the candidate has provided the information. “Better” takes around 2-5 workdays and “Best” 5-10 workdays.
An international employment screening can take up to a couple of weeks as we need to verify the information often takes a bit longer to receive from foreign agencies.

Background check process for candidates
- The candidate receives an email with an activation link to their screening account.
- The candidate logs in and can read the information regarding the handling of personal details and is prompted to enter the requested information. The faster the candidate fills in the details, the faster the background check can be completed.
- The candidate submits the data, and our support department digitally checks that everything is included. Should anything be missing, we will contact the candidate.
- Validata digitally verifies the candidate’s information with our data providers.
- When the screening is finished, both the candidate and the employer will be notified via email that the report is available and ready to be downloaded.
